EESC 110 The Environment and You (Lec/Lab)

A study of our natural environment and the physical and biological principles functioning in it. We will study humans as part of the overall ecosystem and we will look at the effects human actions have on different natural systems: land use, air and water pollution, biodiversity decline, resource extraction and global issues.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. We will develop a background for understanding and discussing the natural functioning of the different Earth systems: geophysical systems, the atmosphere, the oceans, and natural ecosystems.
  2. Develop an understanding of the scientific approach to knowledge.
  3. Be aware of the relationship and impact of the field of environmental science to other fields and society.
  4. Be able to use the terminology appropriate for the discipline.
  5. Develop an understanding of the historical development, and relationships, of major ideas in environmental science.
  6. Understand Human population dynamics and the effect humans have on the environment.
