TECH 325 Networking

This course examines computer networks and data communication. Topics covered include telecommunications history; transmission media; transmission characteristics; error detection and correction; local and wide area networking applications; standard network models; industry standards; protocols; network management; wireless and mobile networks; network security.

  1. Explain how the evolution of communications and networking technologies solves business challenges.
  2. Examine the TCP/IP protocol family and how IP supports voice, video, data, and Internet communications.
  3. Differentiate between the standards, specifications, technologies, and infrastructure that drive current LAN connectivity.
  4. Analyze how Layer 2 networking technology is used for endpoint connectivity and network segmentation to meet business requirements.
  5. Describe how Layer 3 networking protocols are used to establish communications over the network.
  6. Describe wireless and wide area networking used to increase business productivity.
  7. Describe how network management, auditing, and monitoring help improve performance and security.
  8. Examine effective network security and troubleshooting techniques.
