CJ 497 Criminal Justice Thesis

The purpose of this course is to allow the student to conduct his/her own empirical research or to explore by way of a library research paper a narrowly defined topic of particular interest. Approval of the topic and an agreement regarding expectations must be obtained from the instructor prior to registration.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate excellent library-based research skills.
  2. Summarize and synthesize existing literature on a selected research topic.
  3. Demonstrate excellent writing skills, utilizing the current APA reference style.
  4. Demonstrate critical thinking skills for a selected criminal justice issue.
  5. Apply knowledge gained from the literature review by creating policy recommendations for selected criminal justice issue.
  6. Produce a quality research paper and poster in preparation for future academic experiences such as graduate school or professional conferences.
  7. Practice professionalism through communication and meetings with the professor while meeting outlined deadlines for the research project.
