CJ 497 Criminal Justice Thesis
The purpose of this course is to allow the student to conduct his/her own empirical research or to explore by way of a library research paper a narrowly defined topic of particular interest. Approval of the topic and an agreement regarding expectations must be obtained from the instructor prior to registration.
Prerequisite
CJ 202; minimum GPA of 2.75; department chair approval

- Summarize and synthesize existing literature on a selected research topic.
- Demonstrate excellent writing skills, utilizing the current APA reference style.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills for a selected criminal justice issue.
- Apply knowledge gained from the literature review by creating policy recommendations for selected criminal justice issue.
- Produce a quality research paper and poster in preparation for future academic experiences such as graduate school or professional conferences.
- Practice professionalism through communication and meetings with the professor while meeting outlined deadlines for the research project.
