HIST 231 The American West
The history of frontier expansion from the colonial period through the early 20th century, with primary emphasis on the settlement of the trans-Mississippi West in the 19th century. Also considers the 20th century development of the West. Open to freshman.
Student Learning Outcomes
- The student should have a basic understanding of the major developments in the history of the American West, including perspectives provided by new and non-traditional historical approaches
- The student will have learned how to read historical material critically, and to express his or her own thinking on these subjects in a variety of formats.
