PHYS 345 Introduction to Modern Physics

This course in an introduction to a variety of topics in modern physics including relativity, quantum mechanics, statistics physics, subatomic physics, and their applications.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Understand the implications of relativity on space-time and be able to perform Lorentz transformations.
  2. Describe wave-particle duality.
  3. Explain the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle.
  4. Understand and utilize the time-independent Schrodinger equation in one and three dimensions.
  5. Explain the physical properties that impact atomic, nuclear structure, and radioactivity.
  6. Perform calculations describing nuclear phenomenon.
