SOC 201 Social Problems
This course takes a problem-solving approach to the issue of social problems. The structure is topical, and typical topics include politics, poverty, work, education, family, health care, aging, gender and racial inequality, drugs and alcohol, crime, violence, and the environment.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will learn the general approaches to studying social problems within sociology.
- Students will understand the sociological conception of social problems and how such problems differ from other kinds of problems.
- Students will be familiar with the ways in which various social conditions may be publically framed as social problems and how such claims are sometimes contested.
- Students will learn about the use of evidence and critical thought for understanding and evaluating social problems.
