SOC 320 Comparative Cultures
This course is designed to develop knowledge and understanding of different cultural and ethnic settings and backgrounds. Armed with a comparative framework, each student conducts research on an assigned nation, creates a "cultural guidebook" for that nation, and presents his/her findings to the entire class.

- Students will recognize, appreciate, value, and respect cultural difference and diversity.
- Students will develop the ability to question their assumptions about the world around you, recognizing that what we take as “natural” social realities are, in fact, constructed cultural norms that vary according to sociocultural and historical context.
- Students will develop attitudes of objectivity and empathy towards other ways of life.
- Students will examine cultural traits in their functional, historical, and cognitive context to see how each culture adapted to its environment.
