SPAN 201 Intermediate Spanish I

Vocabulary development, grammar review, and development of conversational and writing skills are the main goals of this course.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to communicate orally in a limited number of situations with some effectiveness, ask straightforward questions, and elicit simple information.
  2. Students will be able to write about family, school, academic, and some general interest topics, such as simple summary about learned materials, summarizing a short interview, song or conversation, using simple paragraphs with full command of the subjunctive.
  3. Students will be able to aurally recognize and understand straightforward information or interactions, such as the main idea in messages and presentations on a variety of topics related to everyday life, academic, personal, and general interest.
  4. Students will be able to understand the main idea of texts related to everyday life, personal interests, studies, and a limited number of general interest topics; sometimes understand accounts of personal events; sometimes follow short written instruction; understand the main idea and some supporting facts about famous people and historic events.
  5. Students will be able to identify selected cultural topics pertinent to the Spanish-speaking world.
  6. Students will be able to develop social responsibility through civic knowledge, ethical reasoning, teamwork, and collaboration.
