SPAN 400 Introduction to Spanish Linguistics (Special Topics)
An introduction to the basics of linguistics and its various fields of research with the objective of a gaining a better understanding of second language acquisition. The course will be taught in Spanish and will focus not only on the grammatical and phonological aspects of the language, but also on sociolinguistic contexts and variance. Offered on demand only to secondary education majors; however the secondary education program is currently suspended.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Speak, read, write, and listen in Spanish at the advanced level (ACTFL scale).
- Identify a limited number of literary works by women writers from ArgenRna, Chile, Brazil, Mexico and Puerto Rico, and situate them in the societal context of their producRon;
- Identify and discuss different approaches to reading works by women writers;
- Identify and discuss narraRve components that relate to women’s experiences in the region, including cultural differences among LaRn American women.
