THEA 220 Appreciation of Drama

Introductory course in the understanding and appreciation of the major genres of drama, designed to show how playwrights, both past and present, have shaped their plays in different ways to express different aspects of their times and their diverse attitudes toward life. Open to students at any level.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Develop a basic knowledge in the assorted genres of theatrical art.
  2. Become familiar with the historical development of the art.
  3. Experience play production from the angle of the performer.
  4. Understand the contributions of influential playwrights, performers, and other artists.
  5. Gain firsthand experience and knowledge in the technical elements of theatre.
  6. Create an original script for possible production.
