CRES 820 IPE Education and Simulation

Thriving in the interprofessional environment is a requirement for most, if not all, professional occupations. Participants in this course will optimize their interprofessional communication and collaboration through in-depth study of the Interprofessional Educational Collaborative (IPEC) and the literature on high impact interprofessional educational activities. Learners will have a robust understanding of the literature on interprofessional simulation and will have the opportunity to create and assess each other’s interprofessional learning activities based on current evidence.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. 1. Define the term “interprofessional education” and apply it widely to various academic disciplines.
  2. 10. Understand the role of debriefing and effective strategies for debriefing after interprofessional education experiences.
  3. 11. Create an interprofessional simulation experience and the rubrics and tools needed to objectively examine its outcomes.
  4. 2. Apply the core principles of IPEC and integrate them into interprofessional curriculum design.
  5. 3. Understand the different theories available on promotion of interprofessional communication and collaboration.
  6. 4. Apply interprofessional communication principles such as TeamSTEPPS from the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research into simulation activities.
  7. 5. Teach about management interprofessional conflict.
  8. 6. Summarize the literature on interprofessional simulation across professions.
  9. 7. Understand how to create interprofessional activities with other stakeholders and institutions of higher education or be able to create a center for interprofessional education.
  10. 8. Effectively create and assess interprofessional simulation activities.
  11. 9. Objectively measure research outcomes and publish research on interprofessional simulation activities based on knowledge of the valid and reliable tools available in the literature.
