CRES 823 Technology in Higher Education

Thriving in the online learning environment and understanding online learning management systems are a necessity in the current higher education landscape. Students will become literate on management of courses through an online learning management system and understand the evidence on robust instructional design. At the end of this course, participants will be able to provide meaningful and valuable synchronous and asynchronous online learning activities and assessments in a higher education environment.

  1. 1. Identify the various learning management systems available in the higher education environment and give an overview of their advantages and disadvantages.
  2. 2. Utilize various technological platforms available for recording presentations and variety of methods to make these lectures available to students.
  3. 3. Understand the evidence on delivering effective synchronous and asynchronous lectures and educational activities through learning management systems.
  4. 4. Understand how pedagogy and technology intersect.
  5. 5. Create meaningful online assessments of student learning in the form of rubrics.
  6. 6. Create technology-driven learning opportunities that can meet the needs of diverse learning styles.
  7. 7. Apply systems that can increase student success in the online environment.
  8. 8. Interact effectively and understand the role of course and instructional designers.
  9. 9. Produce interesting and engaging topics for discussion boards and video – based assignments that optimize student reflection and learning.
