Academic Advising
The academic advising program allows students to explore and develop educational plans appropriate to their life goals and aspirations. All incoming freshmen are registered in UJ Foundations. The course is designed to familiarize first-year students with University of Jamestown and college life in general. The course places particular emphasis on assisting students to “look inward” and to evaluate their strengths in order to help them form clear educational goals and a sense of vocation.
Students may declare a major when applying to the university or at any time before graduation by submitting that request to the Registrar's office. Faculty advisors in the major area of interest are assigned to the student when the major is declared. Faculty advisors are available to assist in the planning of class schedules, the selection of concentrations within a department, and offer personal guidance to students as they progress in their educational plans. This also enables students to develop an ongoing relationship with faculty members.
