ENGR 450 Heat Transfer

Heat Transfer covers concepts involving the transfer of heat through steady state and transient heat conduction in solids, forced and free convection in fluids, and thermal radiation.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Know the difference between conduction, convection, and radiation heat transfer
  2. Know and be able to apply Fourier's law to one dimensional and multi-dimensional conduction heat transfer problems in both steady- and transient-state situations
  3. Know and be able to apply Newton's Law of Cooling for convection heat transfer applications
  4. now various non-dimensional numbers such as: Reynolds, Biot, Nusselt, Prandtl, Peclet, and Grashof number, and how they are applied.
  5. Know and be able to apply the Stefen-Boltzmann law to applications of radiation heat transfer.
