PSYC 450 History and Systems

This course is designed to acquaint students with the historical and philosophical antecedents of contemporary psychology. As such, it is a lecture/discussion class in which it is assumed that the student is already familiar with modern empirical and theoretical psychology.

  1. Develop the ability to synthesize and integrate information and ideas across the history of psychology and appreciate the present state of psychology in the context of its past.
  2. Develop a greater understanding of the various perspectives and movements within the field of psychology through critical review of the discipline.
  3. Develop an appreciation for gender and minority issues throughout the history of psychology.
  4. Expose students to original source materials that have impacted the growth of the discipline of psychology.
