SPAN 330 Spanish Peninsular Cultural Studies I

Students will be exposed to representative events, personalities, films, and literary texts germane to Spanish Peninsular culture. Emphasis is on the evolution of Spanish cultural identity from the Golden Age until 1936.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Gain advanced knowledge of vocabulary and main verb forms, and skills for interpreting and doing close readings of complex texts written in Spanish.
  2. Develop oral and written communicative abilities so as to be able to communicate in Spanish about the history and cultures of Spain.
  3. Identify selected literary, cultural, social, historical, political, and religious topics pertinent to the origin and development of the cultures of Spain.
  4. Reflect and critically think about language, literature, culture, history, social justice, religion, politics, and other aspects of Spain by reading and analyzing literary and nonliterary texts of different genres, languages, and time periods.
  5. Develop social responsibility through civic knowledge, ethical reasoning, teamwork, and collaboration.
