BIOL 160 Forensic Science (Lec/Lab)

An entry level course exploring the methodologies and procedures used by crime scene investigators and forensic laboratories. Emphasis on crime scene investigation, recognition, documentation, and collecting of physical evidence. Laboratory exercises provide hands-on opportunities supplementing lecture topics.

  1. Define forensic science and understand the organization and services of the modern forensic laboratory
  2. Describe the science of crime scene investigation and the legal considerations of evidence collecting
  3. Describe the different types of physical evidence and the proper collection and preservation of such evidence
  4. Demonstrate the proper techniques in the use of the microscope during fiber and hair analysis
  5. Organize and delicate personnel and equipment during a "mock" crime scene investigation
