Common Area Damages

Each student who is a resident in a particular residence facility (or a particular section) is responsible for all damage caused to University property beyond ordinary wear and tear in common use areas of their residence facility. If, after reasonable investigation, the administration cannot assign responsibility to an individual or individuals, all residents of the particular residence facility (or section) shall be liable for a pro-rated share of the damage. The assessment of charges for damage shall be based upon the actual cost to the University of repairing or replacing the property as determined in the reasonable discretion of the University, the staff time in investigating the damage and affecting the repairs or replacement, and the cost of collecting the charges. The resident will not be liable for damages caused due to an Act of God or another force majeure.
