BUSN 310 Retirement and Benefits Planning

This course examines and analyzes various benefit programs and retirement planning vehicles. Topics include customer needs analysis; individual plan characteristics; and the distribution, reporting, and taxation requirements specific to each plan type. The course focuses on strategies for integrating retirement planning and benefits into a sound overall personal financial plan.

  1. Describe the characteristics of qualified and tax-advantaged retirement plans and the requirements to maintain tax qualification
  2. Explain the different types of retirement plans available and determine which plans are most appropriate for individuals and businesses
  3. Explain primary components of Social Security and Medicare and incorporate these features into a financial plan
  4. Calculate client goal-based retirement needs and understand the integration of social security, pension plans, individual savings and taxation within these plans
  5. Evaluate a client's retirement needs, develop strategies based on these needs, and determine client-appropriate recmmenations
