EDUC 201 Introduction to Teaching

This is an early course in education for the pre-service prospective teacher. History and philosophy of American education are surveyed. Course requirements include field experience in an accredited public or private classroom.

  1. Understand interpersonal relations and group dynamics present in the field of education.
  2. Investigate effective teaching research-curriculum, motivation, management, differentiation, ethics, and other educational issues.
  3. Analyze various sociological dimensions influencing schooling, including race/ethnicity, class, and gender.
  4. Work cooperatively in small and large groups to apply your knowledge of educational issues and current events.
  5. Research and define various theories on philosophies of education and develop your own philosophy of education.
  6. Investigate curriculum and instructional resources.
