GER 340 Survey of German Literature II
A survey of longer prose in German from Goethe to the present, with emphasis on novels and dramas. Representative literature from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria will be presented. Conducted in German.

Student Learning Outcome
- The student will read unedited works of German, Swiss and Austrian short fiction.
- The student will increase his/her vocabulary and acquaintance with German idiom and language structure over the course of several centuries and literary periods through the reading of unedited works.
- The student will learn how to discuss a number of literary works in German.
- The student will improve his/her writing skills through exercises, oral presentations and compositions.
- The student will be able to describe characteristics of German literature in the 19th and 20th centuries through a study of social and historical developments, literary schools and authors.
