KNS 346 Adaptive Physical Education

A study of the physical education and recreation program designs geared to the needs and desires of children with various types of physical handicaps. This course provides experience in planning and administering programs, with practical experiences in local community programs.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Know current concepts and trends in adapted physical education (InTASC 2n).
  2. Demonstrate the ability to assess physical education abilities of a student requiring adapted physical education (InTASC 6c, 6h).
  3. Know the influence of selected diseases, conditions, and disabilities on the learning and performance of physical education activities.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to modify physical education activities to meet student needs and abilities (InTASC 2g, 2h).
  5. Demonstrate a knowledge of sport opportunities available to students with disabilities.
  6. Demonstrate a positive attitude that respects learners when teaching a student with a disability (InTASC 2m, 2n).
  7. Administer adaptations or unique functions required to implement a program in an inclusive setting. (InTASC 2h).
