KNS 385 Sport First Aid and Injury Care
This course will cover protocols for conducting emergency action steps in the field of competition. Procedures such as conducting the physical assessments, administering first aid for bleeding, tissue damage, moving an injured athlete, and returning athletes to play will be covered. Strategies for greatly reducing athletes' risk of injury or illness will be covered. Students will complete their CPR and AED certifications in the course.

- Apply a working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology to evaluation of emergent and acute conditions.
- Create a mock plan and discuss the importance, components, and function of an emergency action plan.
- Adult, Child, Infant CPR/AED.
- Demonstrate bleeding control, wound management, and minimization of shock during simulations.
- Recognize and manage head, facial, and neurological injuries.
- Respond to situation where injuries to soft tissue, muscles, bones, and joints have occurred.
- Protective taping and wrapping techniques.
- Early treatment and care of athletic injuries.
