The course consists of a general history of France emphasizing modern trends in French culture and civilization. Conducted in French.

- The student will learn vocabulary associated with historical developments in France and its geography.
- The student will improve reading skills through attacking the assignments in the text.
- The student will improve listening skills through lectures, videos, and taped materials.
- The student will improve verbal skills through participation in discussion in French.
- The student will be able to identify major events in French history at least up to the founding of the fifth republic.
- The student will better understand current issues in the news concerning the French-speaking world.
- The student will gain knowledge about the connection between food and culture through the material of the text.
