MUS 161 Harmony/Theory II

In this class the student will gain the ability to discern the design, proportions, and patters of music by developing skills in 4-part voice leading, harmonic progressions, 7th chords, modulation, and secondary chords.

  1. Assimilate and utilize the rules of 4 part voice leading.
  2. Understand and create circle of fifths chord progressions.
  3. Identify, construct, and utilize seventh chords, including dominants and non-dominants.
  4. Identify, construct, and utilize chords at the secondary level.
  5. Identify, construct, and utilize common chord, chromatic, and phrase modulations.
  6. Identify and analyze simple binary and ternary form.
