PSYC 330 Health Psychology

The purpose of this course is to explore a variety of health-related issues from a biopsychosocial model. Some of the topics to be covered include health behavior and prevention, stress and coping, management of chronic illness, cardiovascular disease, psychoneuroimmunology, and patient-practitioner relationships.

  1. Understand the purpose of Health Psychology and why it is important to health.
  2. Identify the different components that make up Health Psychology.
  3. Learn the psychological/biological/sociological factors that contribute to the onset of disease and the role of psychology in the treatment and prevention of disease.
  4. Learn and understand the nature of the stress response and its impact in the etiology and course of many health problems.
