EDUC 202 Science for Elementary Teachers

This course is a study of the basic science concepts from biology, chemistry, physical science, and earth science that elementary teacher are expected to know. Several types of teaching and evaluation techniques are examined in this course.

  1. Know the skills and processes of scientific inquiry in elementary schools
  2. Develop the skills necessary to use scientific inquiry in elementary school
  3. use the tools of scientific inquiry (e.g. observation, classification, measurement, communication, collecting and organizing of data, comparison, prediction, inference, hypothesis, and application) to explore science content. Use the process of scientific method (InTASC 4, 5)
  4. Understand the unifying concepts and processes of science appropriate to teaching elementary grades (InTASC 4,5)
  5. Understand fundamental concepts, content and principles of physical science, life science, earth and space science, science and technology, eprsonal and social perspectives of science, history and nature of science that elementary students should develop. (InTASC 4, 5)
